HOW TO INSTALL A CABIN AIR FILTER
Your cabin air filter should be replaced once a year or after 12,000 miles. Consider replacing the cabin air filter every 5,000 miles if you drive in extremely polluted areas or on dirt roads. If you have allergies, you should change the cabin air filter more frequently to ensure that the air quality is maintained.
The best option for your car is to replace your cabin air filter with a genuine cabin air filter.
Changing your vehicle’s cabin air filter is an easy job that most anyone can tackle. Read on to learn how to replace the cabin air filter.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step One
Locate the cabin air filter in your vehicle. The cabin air filter’s position varies from vehicle to vehicle. It can be found under the hood in certain cars, or under the glovebox or under the dashboard in others. The owner’s manual for your vehicle will tell you where it is. You can also ask a technician or another reliable specialist to show you where to look.
Step Two
Remove the old cabin air filter and the clips, screws, or wing nuts that hold the housing in place once you’ve located the cabin air filter housing. Remove the filter after removing the cover. Examine the filter to see if it needs to be replaced or if it will last a few more road trips. If it’s filthy and soiled, it’s time to replace it.
Step Three
Make sure the housing compartment is clean. Cleaning the housing compartment and air intake duct before installing the new cabin air filter is worthwhile. Clean away any dirt and debris using a vacuum. Wipe the inside of the air filter chamber with a rag to remove any dirt.
Step Four
Replace the cabin air filter. Simply replace the cabin air filter in the same location as the old one (NOTE: be sure you install the filter with the correct air flow direction).
Step Five
Replace the housing cover, including any screws or clips that were removed. If you had to remove the glovebox or dashboard to get to the cabin air filter, reassemble it using the same procedures you used to remove it. It’s as simple as that! You and your passengers will be inhaling cleaner air, and you’ll feel good about saving money by not having it changed by a dealership or mechanic.
